Franjo Road Complete Streets Project to Commence in July

Cutler Bay, FL, June 20, 2024 – The Town of Cutler Bay, during the Public Information Session on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, announced that the much-anticipated Franjo Road Roadway Improvements Project is tentatively scheduled to begin construction in July 2024. This significant infrastructure project aims to enhance public safety, ease traffic congestion, and improve pedestrian mobility, while also beautifying the neighborhood with various streetscape improvements.

The project’s total cost is approximately $16,128,603.02, and it was funded through multiple sources, including $8,347,373.00 from the Miami-Dade County Joint Participation Agreement, contributions from the Town’s People’s Transportation Plan (PTP), the Town’s Stormwater Utility Funds, and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Project Details:

  • Project Limits: SW 184th Street to Old Cutler Road
  • Complete Streets Key Features:
    • Two traffic circles at Franjo Road intersections with Gulfstream Road and Cutler Ridge Drive
    • Lane expansion from two to three lanes, including a center turn lane and dedicated turn lanes at key intersections
    • New street lighting and decorative bus shelters with bus pull-out bays
    • Drainage improvements to eliminate driveway ponding and rutted swale areas
    • ADA compliance with new ramps and complete accessibility
    • Dedicated bicycle share lanes
    • Curb and gutter installation throughout, along with new driveway approaches
    • Landscape improvements and beautification efforts
    • Two (2) bus pullout bays (Franjo Park and Bel-Aire Park)

Project Timeline:

  • Tentative Commencement: July 2024
  • Estimated Time of Completion: June 2026

Construction Phases:

  • Phase 1: SW 184th Street to Sterling Drive
  • Phase 2: Sterling Drive to Tiffany Drive
  • Phase 3: Tiffany Drive to Caribbean Blvd
  • Phase 4: Caribbean Blvd to Cutler Ridge Drive
  • Phase 5: Cutler Ridge Drive to Old Cutler Road

This project was identified in the Town of Cutler Bay Complete Streets Corridor Analysis Master Plan. It reflects the Town’s commitment to creating a pedestrian-friendly community with a vast network of sidewalks and improved public safety measures.
