Dr. Wesley Brooks, Florida's Chief Resilience Officer, Visits Cutler Bay Buffer Land Restoration Site

Thank you to Dr. Wesley Brooks, State of Florida's Chief Resilience Officer, for making time to visit the 8.4-acre parcel located by SW 184 Street and Old Cutler Road this afternoon, alongside Mayor Tim Meerbott and Town Manager Rafael Casals.

Dr. Brooks was recently appointed to his role and is visiting some of the sites included in Florida Department of Environmental Protection's (FDEP) Statewide Flooding and Sea Level Rise Resilience Plan.

The Town purchased this property in 2020 to preserve its environmental value and further the Town's resiliency efforts, with the great support of many residents (learn more about that here).

The site will be preserved as a green space but will need some cleaning and restoration to enhance its environmental value.

To aid the cost of the restoration process, Town staff worked closely with Senator Ileana Garcia to secure a $250,000 grant from FDEP. This project was one of 76 projects selected from 600 submitted to the State. Funds will be matched by the Town and will be phased over the next three years.
