County Mayor Holds Press Conference to Discuss Beaches and Youth Programs Reopening Target Dates

Earlier today, Miami-Dade County Mayor Gimenez held a press conference to discuss a few reopening target dates. Some of the points highlighted in the press conference included:

Target date for beaches to reopen is June 1
Reopening of pools in condominium and apartment complexes and other private communities will coincide with the June 1st target date for the reopening of beaches
County aims for summer camps to be able to open on June 8 (guidelines will be released soon on how those camps and youth activities may reopen)

Town Summer Camps On "Hold"

Please note that our Summer Camp at Cutler Ridge Park and our Careers in STEM Summer Camp are still on "hold." At this time we are waiting for Miami-Dade County to allow for the opening of youth activities and programs, as well as release guidelines on how to do so safely.

The County is currently working on establishing guidelines for the reopening of programs like summer camps and youth recreation camps with a target date of June 8. Stay tuned to our social media pages and e-notifications for updates very soon.

 

 

Blue Land Crabs: Report Illegal Harvesting in Town

It's currently open season to collect Blue Land Crabs until June 30 (closed season is July 1 until October 31). However, it is illegal to collect them during the following conditions, regardless that it is open season:

  • A person cannot collect, or attempt to collect, Blue Land Crabs from the Coastal Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay Habitat Restoration area owned by the South Florida Water Management District, which is clearly posted on site
  • A person cannot collect, or attempt to collect, Blue Land Crabs from any State or County maintained roadway or the right-of-way, which is the swale portion next to the road

The activity of collecting Blue Land Crabs causes safety risks near the roadways and unnecessary traffic obstruction/slowdowns and destroys the habitat restoration area as harvesters trample over protected plant life to collect Blue Land Crabs. Should you observe harvesters in the area collecting or attempting to collect Blue Land Crabs while violating the aforementioned, please call the non-emergency police number at 305-4-POLICE (305-476-5423) or the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation at (305) 470-6863, Option 7. You may also report the violation through their website.
