Town Update: Franjo Park Groundbreaking, Updated Mini Booklets for Businesses, and More

Franjo Park Groundbreaking Ceremony

Today marked an important milestone for the Franjo Park Restoration and Improvements Project, as we held the ceremonial groundbreaking. Mayor Tim Meerbott, along with Council Members Roger Coriat and BJ Duncan visited the park where they met with representatives from Stantec and Stonehenge Construction—who designed and are constructing the park's makeover, respectively—as well as with Town Manager Rafael Casals and Parks Director Etienne Bejarano to go over the project and tour the site where construction has already begun. The project should be completed in approximately 10 months from now.

The project will see the restoration of the park’s baseball fields and three buildings, which include:

NEW LED Sports Lighting System (Completed)
NEW Shade Structure Canopies
NEW Dugouts, Backstops, & Foul Ball Fencing
NEW Drainage System Between Fields
NEW Perimeter Fencing
NEW Bermuda Sod in Athletic Field
NEW Sidewalks Around Concession Area & Common Areas
Upgrading Community Room & Offices
Upgrading Restroom Facilities
Upgrading Concession Stand Facilities
Laser Grading Clay Infields

Although this project has had several setbacks that extended the original project timeline (click here to read more about that) once completed, we will have a better than ever, state-of-the-art baseball field which we look forward to renewing with the energy, spirit and tradition it once had!

County Holds Press Conference on Hurricane Preparedness During COVID-19 Pandemic

Today marks the official start of Hurricane Season. Miami-Dade County Mayor Gimenez held a press conference to discuss some of the preparedness procedures as well as adjustments that have been made in regard to Evacuation Shelters during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here are a few highlights from the conference. Click here to watch the press conference in its entirety:

Prepare now before a threat by trimming your trees and ensuring your shutters are complete and in working condition
Ensure you have enough food and water for you and your family for 72 hours after a storm
Take advantage of the Disaster Preparedness Tax Break taking place now until June 4
If you are unable to evacuate on your own during a hurricane threat, register for the Emergency & Evacuation Assistance Program (EEAP) now
Should there be a hurricane threat, there will be special screening procedures for COVID-19 at evacuation shelters
The County has expanded shelter capacity so that instead of the allotted 20 Square Feet per person that was the standard in previous years, there will now by 40 Square Feet per person
