No Right Turn Signs Being Installed in Palmetto Bay
Beginning Wednesday, December 11, Cutler Bay residents will likely, and unfortunately, experience travel delays going northbound due to the reinstallation of “No Right Turn" signs in Palmetto Bay going into effect. At the urging of Palmetto Bay Council, a traffic study and various meetings, Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works is currently reinstalling the “No Right Turn” signs in Palmetto Bay along SW 87 Avenue between SW 171 Street to SW 181 Street. Effective Monday to Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., right turns will not be permitted on SW 87 Avenue between SW 171 Street and SW 181 Street.
In response, our Mayor Tim Meerbott has issued a letter to Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez to reconsider the decision of reinstalling the no right turn signs without the construction of the SW 168 Street roadway (a condition proposed in Palmetto Bay’s Neighborhood Traffic Study dated April 2019). This is not the first time our Town Council has voiced its opposition to the installment of “No Right Turn” signs. In May 15, 2019, Town Council adopted Resolution No. 19-30 urging the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works to expand the Village of Palmetto Bay’s Neighborhood Access Traffic Study to include portions of SW 87 Avenue located within the Town. The reinstallation of "No Right Turn" signs without the construction of the SW 168 Street roadway expansion will have a negative impact on our residents who travel northbound during the morning peak traffic hours. We will continue to urge Miami-Dade County to reconsider its decision and will keep you updated on the matter, should anything change.
