Town Recognized for Environmental Effort to Preserve Coastal Buffer Land by Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners

On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners and County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava recognized the Town of Cutler Bay for the environmental efforts made to purchase 8.4 acres of buffer land along sensitive coastal wetlands with the purpose to restore and preserve the land.

The parcel—located east of Old Cutler Road and South of SW 184 Street—is a valuable ecotone that is home to a variety of native species. It also serves as protection for the community from storm surge and the threat of sea level rise. Prior to its purchase, the parcel had a long history of plans for development.

Instead of being developed, this parcel will preserved as green space and its environmental value will be enhanced through clean-up and restoration.
