Town of Cutler Bay Celebrates Grand Opening of New Baptist Health Facility

Cutler Bay, FL - March 6, 2025 – The Town of Cutler Bay proudly welcomed Baptist Health’s newest facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 19, 2025. This state-of-the-art healthcare center, located at the Shoppes of Cutler Bay (20997 Old Cutler Road), brings world-class medical services to the heart of our community, ensuring residents have access to high-quality care close to home.
Local leaders, Baptist Health executives, medical professionals, and residents gathered to celebrate this milestone, marking the expansion of healthcare services in Cutler Bay. Attendees heard from several distinguished speakers, including Mayor Tim Meerbott, Baptist Health executives Nancy Batista-Rodriguez, Dr. Jonathan Fialkow, Dr. Michael McDermott, and Roberta Stokes, Chair of the Baptist Outpatient Services Board. Also in attendance were Councilmembers BJ Duncan, Suzy Lord, and Ramirez, along with Town Manager Rafael Casals, who joined the ceremony and toured the facility.
“We are proud to have Baptist Health expanding in Cutler Bay, bringing comprehensive healthcare services right into our community,” said Mayor Meerbott. “No more driving north to Kendall or South Miami—our residents now have access to primary care, urgent care, diagnostic imaging, and brain and spine care, all under one roof. Baptist Health is not only a leader in healthcare but also a tremendous community partner, investing in wellness programs, free health screenings, and educational classes for our residents.”
The new facility offers a variety of essential healthcare services, including:
- Primary Care – Routine and preventive care, as well as management of chronic conditions.
- Urgent Care – Treatment for minor illnesses and injuries, available daily from 9 AM to 9 PM.
- Diagnostic Imaging – On-site CT scans and digital X-rays for fast and accurate diagnoses.
- Brain and Spine Care – Neurology specialists providing expert care for neurological disorders.
The event featured remarks from Baptist Health leadership, emphasizing their commitment to providing accessible, high-quality healthcare. Nancy Batista-Rodriguez, CEO of Baptist Outpatient Services, expressed excitement about opening Baptist Health’s 21st urgent care center in South Florida, furthering their mission of serving local communities.
Dr. Jonathan Fialkow introduced Dr. Christopher da Fonseca, the facility’s lead internal medicine physician, who will offer comprehensive, patient-centered care. Dr. Michael McDermott highlighted the facility’s Brain & Spine Care program, ensuring patients receive top-tier neurological services without having to travel long distances.
Following the ceremony, guests were invited to tour the facility, enjoy refreshments, and engage with medical staff.
Baptist Health’s investment in Cutler Bay extends beyond the walls of its new facility. The organization has already begun working with Town Staff to schedule health and wellness classes for the Active Adults program, with more education and exercise programs planned throughout the year.
