Town of Cutler Bay and Congresswoman Salazar Honor CHI During National Health Centers Week

Cutler Bay, FL - August 2024 - The Town of Cutler Bay, in collaboration with Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar, proudly presented a proclamation to Community Health of South Florida, Inc. (CHI) on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, in honor of National Health Centers Week. This event, which included a facility tour and discussion of CHI’s significant milestones, underscored the critical role Community Health Centers play in providing comprehensive healthcare services to our communities.

National Health Centers Week celebrates and raises awareness of America’s 1,400 Community Health Centers (CHCs), which are vital to ensuring that more than 31.5 million patients across nearly 15,000 communities receive quality healthcare annually. These centers exemplify commitment, compassion, and service, attributes that CHI embodies through its tireless work in South Florida.

Over the past year, through our partnership with CHI, they have reached several notable milestones:

  • Over 65,000 unique patients served from Coconut Grove to Key West
  • Over 500 babies delivered
  • South Florida residents now have access to a new 3D mammography machine at CHI's Doris Ison Health Center
  • Cardiology services are now being offered by CHI
  • CHI's medical residency program celebrated its 10th anniversary, continuing to graduate family medicine and psychiatric physicians to serve South Florida
  • The State of Florida awarded $960,000 for the construction of CHI's Children's Crisis Center

“These accomplishments are a testament to the power of collaboration and the strength of our community,” said Blake Hall, President & CEO of CHI. “Together, we have made significant strides in addressing the health disparities affecting many in our surrounding communities.”

During the event, Congresswoman Salazar joined CHI President Blake Hall and CHI staff on a tour of the facility, discussing these milestones and their impact on the community. In recognition of CHI’s invaluable contributions, the Town of Cutler Bay presented CHI with a proclamation for National Health Centers Week, and Congresswoman Salazar presented a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition.
