Fertilizer ban in effect May 15-October 31

Beginning May 15 and through October 31, the use of fertilizer containing nitrogen or phosphorous is restricted in Miami-Dade County.

This County ordinance was developed to help reduce nutrient contamination during the rainy season that would ultimately contaminate Biscayne Bay. Excess nutrients from fertilizer can enter our urban watershed and end up in Biscayne Bay, where they have contributed to seagrass die-offs, algae blooms and most recently fish-kills.
