Town Police Department Overview

The Town of Cutler Bay contracts with Miami-Dade Police Department for its police services which is provided through an Interlocal Agreement between the Town of Cutler Bay and Miami-Dade County. We officially began our police services within the Town on August 23, 2006. We are committed to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens while emphasizing our policing efforts through the concepts of Community Oriented Policing.

Police Services

The Town Police Department has a total of 55 sworn police officers with a support staff of 5 civilian police employees who serve in our Uniform Patrol Unit, the Neighborhood Resource Unit, the General Investigations Unit and our Administrative Section.

Our Uniform Patrol Unit services 10 sq. miles which is populated by 45,000 Cutler Bay citizens that live in about 14,000 housing units. Included in the daily patrols, they service 8 public schools and 10 Town parks. Our Uniform Patrol officers respond on a yearly basis to approximately 21,000 combined routine and emergency calls-for service. These calls-for-service are related to person and property crimes that include other dispatched calls such as: traffic crashes, burglar alarms, disturbances, sick or injured persons, persons in crisis, attempted suicides, fire, and all other types of police related calls. 

Our General Investigations Unit conduct follow-up investigations to all cases that have solvability factors. Our Neighborhood Resource Unit increase citizen safety thorough community involvement and raising crime awareness. Our Traffic Enforcement Officers, who are part of our Uniform Patrol Unit, address traffic safety concerns and conduct traffic enforcement initiatives in hot spot areas.

Our Neighborhood Resources Unit utilizes a community-oriented policing approach to servicing the community. This includes establishing policies and strategies aimed at achieving more effective and efficient crime control. The NRU strives to improve quality of life by utilizing a proactive reliance approach on community resources which seeks to change crime causing conditions. These efforts contribute greatly in reducing the fear of crime in the community. The NRU maintains contact with business and homeowner associations to solicit their concerns and input. The daily operations are directed and guided by the Town Police Commander, who is a Police Major, and the Operations Commander, who is a Police Lieutenant. The overall operations of the Town Police Department is overseen and managed by the Town Manager.
