AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities
The Town has made a commitment to actively work toward making Cutler Bay a great place to live for all ages and in March 2016, the Town joined the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities. This Network encourages states, cities, towns and counties to prepare for the rapid aging of the U.S. population by paying increased attention to the environmental, economic and social factors that influence the health and well-being of older adults.
The Town's Age-Friendly or Livable Community has features such as walkable streets, housing and transportation options, access to key services and opportunities for resident to participate in community activities.
Miami-Dade County has initiated a Countywide Age-Friendly Community Survey to learn more about the needs of residents age 50 and older. According to the County’s website at www.agefriendlymiami.org, “An age-friendly community is a community that is designed for people to stay active, engaged, and healthy with dignity and enjoyment as they age. An age-friendly community is good for people of all ages and abilities. The Miami-Dade Age-Friendly Initiative is conducting this survey among residents age 50 and over to understand your views and what you’ll need as you get older to make our community a great place to live, work, and play. Your responses will help inform our Age-Friendly Action Plan”.
The Town is encouraging all Cutler Bay Residents age 50 and older to complete the County’s Community Survey. The week of August 7-11, Town Staff will visit Senior Living Facilities and Senior Centers throughout the Town to assist residents in completing the survey.
