COVID-19 Update: Mayor Gimenez Signs New Order and Amendment, Assistance for Those Laid-Off, and More...

County Mayor Gimenez Signs New Emergency Order and Amendment

Today, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez signed a new emergency order and amendment for Emergency Order 09-20, as listed below:

  • Emergency Order 011-20: Urges persons over 65 years of age or have a serious underlying medical condition to stay home and take such other measures as necessary to limit their risk of exposure to COVID-19.
  • Amendment 1 to Emergency Order 09-20: Effective March 26, hotels and other commercial lodging establishments shall not accept any occupants or extend existing reservations, except for essential lodgers.

Assistance for Those Laid Off or Not Getting Paid as a Result of Impacts from COVID-19:

If your employment has been negatively impacted as a result of the mitigation efforts in Florida to stop the spread of COVID-19, you may be eligible to receive Reemployment Assistance. Reemployment Assistance provides temporary wage replacement (unemployment insurance) benefits to eligible individuals who are out of work through no fault of their own. Learn more by visiting:

Mayor Meerbott Will Be the Featured Guest for Accelerate South Dade's Virtual Morning Huddle, March 27:

This Friday, March 27 at 10 a.m., Mayor Tim Meerbott will be the featured guest speaker on Accelerate South Dade's Morning Huddle virtual meeting.

Accelerate South Dade is a small business and non-profit incubator in Cutler Bay that provides valuable workshops, information and networking opportunities for businesses in South Dade. They host their Morning Huddle every weekday morning at 10 a.m. to discuss current events and topics that are of value to businesses.

During Friday's meeting, Mayor Meerbott will cover important topics regarding the Town, the impact to businesses and COVID-19. The virtual meeting is hosted on Zoom and can also be accessed by calling in and is open to anyone to listen in. Get the details on how to participate here.
