We’re in the midst of a very exciting time for our Town! As many of you know, we recently finalized the “land swap” deal—exchanging the Cutler Bay Town Center building and adjacent property we owned for 16 acres of land located on Old Cutler Road and SW 212 Street, known to many as the “potato field” (learn more about this exchange here: http://cutlerbay-fl.gov/Home/Components/News/News/3377/).
The vision for this parcel of land—which is located in the geographical heart of our Town—is to not only house a municipal complex and park, but to be the emotional heart of our Town and a gathering place for our tightly-knit community.
The next step in this project is the visioning process, which will determine what we—as a community—envision for this space. Your involvement and direct input is crucial to the success of this project. During the visioning process, you will be invited to multiple public involvement meetings and workshops that will be held to discuss concepts and amenities you would like to see on this site. To kickoff the visioning process, we are working with the urban planning and architecture firm Valle Valle & Partners to prepare a very preliminary conceptual design of the proposed Cutler Bay Municipal Complex. Though nothing is planned yet, we are attaching to this letter two conceptual renderings to spark your imagination and show what the Cutler Bay Municipal Complex could look like, illustrating a beautiful space that encourages community gatherings. These preliminary renderings were not meant to limit the vision for the site to what is illustrated—we are not restricted to the style, structure and amenities shown here. Rather, these renderings were meant to initiate a community conversation about the brilliant possibilities and amenities that could lay ahead for this project.
It is of great importance to the Town Council and me to ensure this is a financially responsible and viable project that will not overburden Town residents. Learning from previous experience of a similar community visioning process we had in 2016 for a Town Center Plaza and Aquatic Center, the Town Council and I will work closely with staff and consultants to prepare a reasonable budget and set financial limits for this proposed project. During the visioning phase, we will work with our consultants to provide you with clear financial parameters of the various possibilities we may consider for the Municipal complex and park.
A centrally located gathering place and municipal complex has been a vision of all Town Councils since Cutler Bay incorporated in 2005. I am thrilled that this idea is finally coming to fruition—although, there is still much more work to be done. We look forward to working with you, our residents, to create a world-class gathering point for our community to enjoy and become legacy for future generations to enjoy as well.
