As Hurricane Dorian approaches Florida, it is important to be alert and prepared. At this time there has been no evacuation orders for Miami-Dade County. Although the exact location and intensity Dorian will have if and when it makes landfall in Florida is uncertain, now is a good time to ensure you are ready. Here are few tips to follow to prepare for a storm:

  • Continuously monitor local news and weather reports
  • Know your Storm Surge Zone
  • Prepare an evacuation plan and emergency communication plan (write down important phone numbers on paper so you can access them easily, should you lose access to them electronically)
  • Stock up on supplies (gas, water, non-perishable food, batteries, medicine, withdraw cash, etc.)
  • Protect your property (place shutters, secure loose outdoor items that may become missiles during a storm, etc.)
  • Collect and safeguard critical legal documents and records
  • Stay connected! Make sure you've signed up to receive our e-notifications and follow us on our social media pages: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (@townofcutlerbay)
