ATV Riding and Illegal Dumping in Town Protected Mitigation Sites
Help us raise awareness...
Did you know the portion of land north and south of SW 224 Street and 97 Avenue is a protected mitigation site? This area of land is prone to two recurring problems:
- There is repeated illegal dumping of trash and debris in the area
- Motorized vehicles (such as ATVs and dirt bikes) have been illegally crossing into this area and disturbing/harming the environment, which is home to various migratory birds. Many of these birds make their nests on the ground, making them particularly vulnerable to motorized vehicles riding through. These birds, and their nests, are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act
Town Police and the Code Compliance department are on alert and constantly monitoring the area to prevent this from happening, however, we need your help as well! If you witness these violations, please report it to the Town:
- To report illegal dumping violations, please contact our Code Compliance Department at (305) 234-4262 during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) or call the Code Compliance Hotline at (786) 573-5551 after hours
- To report someone on a motorized vehicle riding on the protected mitigation site (as highlighted on the map), please contact Town Police at (305) 467-5423 (or 305-4-POLICE)
This green space not only serves as a mecca for bird watchers but the habitat increases the value of the community and surrounding homes. Help raise awareness by sharing this information with your neighbors, friends and family. If you have any questions, please call Town Hall during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) at (305) 234-4262.
