CUTLER BAY, FL—On Monday afternoon, February 4, Town of Cutler Bay Mayor Tim Meerbott and Council Member Michael Callahan, who serves as the liaison to the Parks & Recreation Committee, visited Franjo Park to receive an update on the status of the Franjo Park restoration project from Parks & Recreation Director Etienne Bejarano along with Town Manager Rafael Casals.

During the site visit, Mayor Meerbott and Council Member Callahan remembered their time playing and coaching at the park—a park that holds many wonderful memories and is loved by our community. “I am very excited about the upgrades and improvements that will be completed in the near future at Franjo Park. In addition to the renovation of the park, I look forward to working with the Perrine Baseball and Softball Association to reinstate the league and the sense of community it brings, including the Opening Day Parade and Celebration,” expressed Mayor Meerbott. “Although the restoration of the park has taken a while to get on track, once the project is completed, our community will have a state-of-the-art park that our residents and their friends and families can enjoy again, just as I did in the past with my family.”

The restoration project began a few months ago with the demolition of the interior fencing of the park and the removal of the hedges along the interior fencing. An Invitation to Bid was also announced in January for the Franjo Park Athletic Fields Lighting Improvements and the bids received will be reviewed by the Council at the next Town Council Meeting on February 20.

The Town Council is strongly committed to restoring and upgrading Franjo Park and has budgeted over $1.4 million for its restoration. The upgrades to the park will include:

  • NEW LED Sports Lighting System
  • NEW Shade Structure Canopies
  • NEW Dugouts, Backstops and Foul Ball Fencing
  • NEW Drainage System Between Fields
  • NEW Perimeter Fencing
  • NEW Bermuda Sod in Athletic Field
  • NEW Sidewalks Around Concession Area and Common Areas
  • Upgrading Community Room and Offices
  • Upgrading Restroom Facilities
  • Upgrading Concession Stand Facilities
  • Laser Grading Clay Infields
