TPO Governing Board Special Meeting Update
Miami-Dade Approves ‘Rapid-Transit’ Bus Plan Over Metrorail Expansion in South Dade
Honorable Mayor Peggy R. Bell attended the Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) Special Meeting today, in which the TPO Governing Board was to vote on the preferred mode of a bus rapid-transit (BRT) or a 20 mile Metrorail extension along the existing South Dade transit way. The Miami-Dade County consultant’s report recommended the BRT vs. Metrorail extension.
Mayor Bell addressed the PTO governing body and urged them to endorse the Metrorail extension instead of the BRT. Mayor Bell was adamant that she represented over 45,000 residents of Cutler Bay, in which the Town Council voted unanimously on Resolution #17-52 urging the TPO Governing Board to construct a light rail and/or Metrorail.
Unfortunately, the TPO Governing Board's final vote was 15-7 in favor of BRT for the South Dade transit way.
