Miami-Dade County’s “Go Green & Recycle Your Evergreen”

Post Date:01/04/2018 1:57 PM

The Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) is encouraging its customers to go green and recycle their Christmas trees! Miami-Dade County has offered four ways to dispose of Christmas trees.

Option 1

Starting Tuesday, December 26, 2017 residents served by DSWM can recycle their clean, decoration-free Christmas trees by taking them to one of the Trash and Recycling Centers (TRCs) or the West Miami-Dade Home Chemical Collection Center. For a complete list of TRCs, please visit the County’s website at .

Also, beginning in February 2018 recycled Christmas trees will be chipped and given away as mulch to residents served by DSWM who take their Christmas trees to one of the seven participating TRCs. Residents served by DSWM can pick up the chipped material on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Be sure to bring a shovel and bags or pails as it is required to take away the mulch!

Please be advised that the County has implemented the TRC Access Management System to ensure that only waste fee customers deliver materials to the facilities. Residents are required to present a valid State of Florida driver license or Identification Card to the waste attendant on duty. The license or ID card will be scanned into a handheld device to determine if the address on the license or card is a match against an eligible property address in their database.

For a complete list of Christmas Tree Mulch Locations, please visit the County’s website at .

Option 2

Crews will collect Christmas trees from residents served by DSWM curbside beginning January 8, 2018 by zones. Please place Christmas trees at the curbside for pick-up on the Sunday before your assigned pick-up week. Crews will remove Christmas trees during each zone’s designated pick-up week.

The Town of Cutler Bay falls under Zone 4 (south side of SW 152 Street to SW 400 Street), which dates are January 29 - February 2, 2018. Please place your Christmas tree at the curb by Sunday, January 28, 2018.

Option 3

Residents served by DSWM can cut up their Christmas tree and place it inside their green garbage cart for collection with their household garbage.

Option 4

Residents served by DSWM can use one of their two bulky waste pickups to have their Christmas tree collected.

All DSWM curbside waste collection customers should have received the “Go Green & Recycle Your Evergreen” mailer. The publication includes important information regarding how and when to recycle or dispose of Christmas trees this year and into the early weeks of 2018.  Information on the program is also available on the department’s web page:
