Hurricane Preparedness Tip:  Home Preparation

Protect areas where wind can enter.  Secure windows and doors with Miami-Dade County approved storm shutters or 5/8-inch plywood.  Bring in lawn furniture or other outdoor items not tied down that can become airborne.  Take trash and tree-trimmings to a local Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Center.

A message from the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management

  • All waste services will continue to be delivered as normal until weather conditions no longer permit.

  • In advance of the arrival of a tropical system, we advise residents to NOT trim trees or hedges or begin any major cleanup projects around the home.

  • Bulky waste pickups must be scheduled ahead of time by calling 3-1-1, and the typical turnaround time for a pickup is from 1 - 9 days.

  • Our crews are diligently collecting previously scheduled piles and will continue to collect scheduled piles until weather conditions no longer permit safe operation of our equipment and vehicles.

  • Again, we advise that trees NOT be trimmed in advance of a storm as there is no guarantee that a pickup can occur prior to the storm’s arrival.

  • If residents need to immediately dispose of household trash, yard trash and bulky items, we advise that they take trash items to a Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Center.   Open daily from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and will have extended operating hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. effective Wednesday, September 6, 2017.
